We are pleased to announce the Summer School of Linguistics 2023. The school will be held in a city České Budějovice in the south of the Czech Republic. Speakers from top European research institutions and universities will present lectures on various aspects of language, language knowledge, and linguistic research. The school is primarily intended for graduate students of linguistics, psycholinguistics and related areas. However, advanced BA or MA students interested in language and its use, as well as faculty members often also find the school inspiring and useful.
The schedule will be published in the second half of February 2023, the list of speakers is already available.
The program will start on Saturday, August 12 at 10 am, and conclude on Saturday, August 19. The expected check-in is on Friday, August 11 and check-out on Sunday, August 20.
Since there is typically a higher number of applicants than is the capacity of the Summer School, we ask you to include a short motivation letter to the application (max. 1000 characters). The applications are open starting February 15 until March 13 (deadline extended till March 19). You will be informed about your acceptance on March 20. In case you are accepted, you will have to pay to finish your registration (see below). Those who are not accepted in the first round will be put on the waiting list and will be invited to register if some of the accepted applicants do not register in time.
We can provide two types of registration: with or without accommodation. We offer nice and cheap accommodation in the dormitory of the University of South Bohemia. There are two types of rooms: a twin bedroom with a shared bathroom (475 CZK person/night; i.e. 5775 CZK for the whole school including the participation fee) and a single bedroom sharing a bathroom and fridge with two other single bedrooms (565 CZK person/night; i.e. 6585 CZK for the whole school including the participation fee). We can offer accommodation only to those who would come for the whole time of the school.
Participants who do not want to use this accommodation or would like to come only for a few days are also welcome, but they need to find their own accommodation. Also, we ask them to pay a participation fee of 1500 CZK (approximately 63 EUR) to complete the registration.
If you cancel your registration until May 30, we will refund you 70% of the fee. Until July 15, we can refund 50% of the fee. After this date, the fee is not refundable.
It is possible to pay via bank transfer or via a credit card. You will be informed about the possibilities of the payment via an email together with the confirmation of your acceptance.During the school, a poster session will be held where participants may present their work, including results, ongoing projects, or planned work. This is not obligatory, but it is a good opportunity to interact with other participants and faculty. In principle, it will be possible to accept all the posters (perhaps with a limitation of the number of posters per person).
